TLDR: Help us celebrate by submitting your project for consideration for a free* WELL Performance Verification and by becoming our 100th WELL Certified project!
THE LONG VERSION: Many moons ago, I was sitting in a GBCI ZOOM staff meeting, where it was announced that multiple rating systems were coming online and volunteers were needed to “stand them up.” This means that a new rating system was getting ready to launch, and someone was needed to do the dirty behind the scenes work - tweaking technical language, writing stock text comments for common submission errors, ensuring consistency of reviews by performing quality assurance and most importantly - answering hundreds and hundreds of customer-service inquiries. I had already been performing in a similar training and customer service role for LEED, so I though why not? And so a draft of something called "The WELL Building Rating System" arrived in my e-mail, with the message "GET READY!"
At that time, we were called WELL Assessors and were assigned directly to projects, to follow those projects teams through the documentation process and to be one consistent point of contact. Projects were assigned randomly, and progressed at different speeds. Once the project successfully completed the documentation review, we would also act as the the field agent who personally came to the site and performed field sampling to ensure the project demonstrated the WELL criteria. And as luck would have it, while I was the first WELL Assessor on the team, I was the last one in the field.
BUT ohhhh what a project it was, and in London no less. Up to that point in my life, I had never travelled internationally outside the US - "Not even to Cabo?" as our admin assistant expressed loudly in disbelief at one staff meeting. Little did I know that was just going to be the start of accumulating many airline miles...
FAST FORWARD many years and many projects and many employers. I've had some strange experiences to be sure - from a PV in a cornfield to a PV in a hurricane - from a PV in a morgue to a PV while the building was literally on fire - from the PV where I wasn't allowed a chair to sit down to the PV where I blew my eardrum out. And while I've literally touched hundreds and hundreds of WELL projects over the years, the ones that I tend to count are the ones where I personally performed the on-site field testing and the associated analysis, and the project was then successfully certified. Meeting these dedicated project teams in person and seeing the pride in their eyes as they walk me through the space and explain what they did, and experiencing the occupants who are benefitting from the space - makes the long days (and nights) worthwhile.
As we approach our 100th WELL certified project, we'd like to give back to system that has given us so much - by giving back to the community. We are looking for a project to partner with, who also positively impacts the community or is fighting the good fight by being in an under-represented area of the United States (check our Where We've Been page for project locations). We will be donating our professional services (time and labor) to help a project get across the finish line and become WELL Certified. If you have a project that you'd like to be considered, please complete the form below. All projects submitted will also receive a 10% discount on professional services, if not selected.
